Ed Ruscha, born in 1937, has carved a career that become widely recognisable in the contemporary art scene. Hailing from the Pop Art movement, the American artist places US consumer culture are the forefront of his works, seamlessly blending this with bold text, slogans and image. Ruscha elevates the mundane, everyday subject with wit to form a distinct visual language where the ordinary becomes the extraordinary, yet simultaneously acts as a social comment. In his early years, Ruscha worked as a layout artist for an advertising agency.
