H1-3 Enter The Infinite - Supernatural is a Jacquard-woven tapestry produced by the renowned contemporary artist Damien Hirst in 2016. The tapestry comes in a limited edition size of 20 and shows a pattern composed of red, yellow, blue and green thread against a white backdrop. Green dominates the composition and hints of red, blue and yellow complement the base colour and bring a sense of dynamism to the artwork.
The tapestry is part of Hirst’s Enter The Infinite collection which is composed of twelve tapestries, all of which follow a similar design and colour composition. Hirst’s experimentation with weaving in these works captures the artist’s desire to experiment across different mediums. Hirst is renowned for trying out various different artistic styles and methods. From the geometric precision of his Spot paintings to the loose style of his Spin paintings, as well as the painterly skills of the Veils collection in comparison to his installations of animals preserved in formaldehyde, Hirst is an artist defined by his versatility and obsession with experimentation.
The titles of the tapestries in Enter The Infinite all carry strong spiritual and religious undertones. While this collection explores themes of religion, life and death in a less overt manner to other of Hirst’s artworks, it nonetheless touches on these themes through the titles of the works and the ethereal quality of their designs.
